Whether you’re having a casual conversation, interviewing for a new position or trying to get laid, people’s opinion of you and your worth is shaped in a large part by the way you communicate.

While body language and actions are anything but trivial, the words you use, and the words you don’t, are paramount for forming the perception of your personality.

While it’s impossible to fake an extensive vocabulary, the good news is your vernacular isn’t the most important part of this process. Despite this fact you should find time to read novels regularly. They will make you a better writer, speaker and reader. Reading will make you more knowledgeable and if you find the right book for your mood it’s incredibly entertaining and rewarding.

The larger your vocabulary the more tools you have at your disposal, but having all the tools in the world is useless if you don’t pick the best one for the job, and then get to work. I’ve always been a big fan of useful tips and life lessons. In fact I’ve been planning to write a list of Golden Rules for Men for a  while now, but I’ve been busy with boobs on my brain.

The guys over at Cobwebs in the Wine Cellar did a writeup on the boobs post, which led me to their list of top ten life lessons for anyone who still doesn’t get it. While I still plan on writing my own list, this seemed like a great opportunity to mind the gap.

Every man will find himself in a quandary from time to time. When in doubt and in need of guidance you need ask yourself just one question: What Would John Wayne Do?

When I was just a boy I was having a very serious discussion with my father about a choice he had made when I tried to show I understood by throwing out the cliché “you should never take the easy way out”.

His response was some of the best advice I have received. “No” he said, “you should always take the best way out”.

Sometimes life isn’t easy; in fact sometime it’s a pretty hard, brutal and shitty place. When you’re in a situation with no easy choices just remember to always take the best way out. If you’re not sure what that is then remember WWJWD.
